The Piehl Family

Meet our family, Doug, Donis, and sons Marc and Eric.

From the time his mother first read him stories about Laura Ingalls and Daniel Boon, Doug always wanted to be a farmer. Growing up in North Kitsap he spent his summers helping his grandmother with her garden and still runs his grandfather's 1947 Earthmaster cultivating tractor. Doug went on to become a water engineer by trade, and leverages his professional knowledge of soils and the water cycle to pursue his first love of farming and caring for the land.

Donis was raised in the Gig Harbor, WA. She grew with a passion for education.  She loved visiting her mother's first-grade classroom on the Puyallup tribal reservation. Like her mother, she decided to pursue a teaching career at Washington State University. There she met Douglas and everything changed, for the better! After teaching at a tribal school,  Douglas and Donis combined forces, backpacked around the world for two years and decided to settle down and plant their roots. Now a days, you will find Donis maintaining the herb and flower gardens while juggling homeschooling two ambitious boys.

Their boys Eric and Marc are now seventh generation farmers. They are learning the best gardening techniques from their father and great-grandmother. Their grandpa gives them brilliant ideas on what livestock to haul onto the land! Like their father, they are highly interested in fishing, traditional skills, and gardening. This year, the boys are expanding their own personal garden and are eager to go to market! When not in school, you'll find Marc weeding the garden while Eric is collecting the eggs!
